The trend of re-releasing films continues to be popular, initially gaining momentum last year when “Rockstar” (2011) made its way back to theaters, earning impressive box office numbers. Following this, titles like “Laila Majnu” (2018) and “Tumbbad” (2018) surprised many by surpassing their original earnings upon re-release. This year also kicked off positively, as “Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani” (2013) saw significant success. In February, “Sanam Teri Kasam” (2016) broke records, becoming the highest-grossing re-release. March is also packed with re-releases, and we can now confirm that the film “Jung” (2000) will be back in cinemas.
“Jung” features a talented cast including Sanjay Dutt, Jackie Shroff, Raveena Tandon, Aditya Pancholi, and Shilpa Shetty. Directed by Sanjay Gupta and produced by Satish Tandon, the film is set to re-release on May 9, coinciding with its 25th anniversary since its initial release on May 12, 2000.
The film’s plot revolves around an upright police officer whose son desperately needs a bone marrow transplant to survive. In his quest to find a donor, the officer faces many obstacles but finally discovers a possible match in a criminal he had previously incarcerated. The criminal, however, is reluctant to help because of their complicated past. “Jung” is fondly remembered for Sanjay Dutt’s memorable performance as Balli and features the popular song “Aaila Re Ladki Mast Mast.” Notably, the screenplay was written by Anurag Kashyap and his brother Abhinav Kashyap.
This Friday marks the re-release of various beloved films starring Aamir Khan. Classics like “3 Idiots,” “Dangal,” “Dil,” and “Lagaan” will be showcased as part of a festival in honor of Aamir Khan’s 60th birthday. Additionally, we can expect “Yaariyan” (2014) to return to theaters next week, with films like “Half Girlfriend” (2017), “Awarapan” (2007), and “Aashiqui 2” (2013) also lined up for future re-releases.
