Former Indian cricketer S. Sreesanth has urged fans to stop questioning Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli about their retirement plans, expressing a desire to see them compete in the upcoming Olympics and strive for a gold medal for India. As India advances to the semi-finals of the 2025 Champions Trophy after a victory against Australia in Dubai on March 4, the future of both players has been a hot topic, especially following their retirement from T20Is after last year’s World Cup.
With cricket set to return to the Olympics in 2028, Sreesanth is hopeful that Kohli and Rohit will represent India in Los Angeles and aim for gold. “People are speculating about Virat and Rohit’s retirements. Let’s allow them to keep playing! Having Olympians like Virat and Rohit winning a gold medal for our country would be incredible,” Sreesanth said in an exclusive interview.
The cricket tournament at the 2028 Olympics will be played in the T20 format, raising questions about whether Kohli and Rohit will be a part of the team given their previous announcements.
Sreesanth also praised the current Indian team, pointing out the strong sense of camaraderie among the players. “What stands out about the team is their humility and cooperation. The brotherhood on the field is their real strength,” he noted.
He also commended the team’s management, particularly coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Rohit Sharma, for their effective leadership during the Champions Trophy campaign. India is now set to face either New Zealand or South Africa in the final match on March 9 in Dubai.
