Suniel Shetty and PETA India Gift Karnataka Temple Eco-Friendly Mechanical Elephant for Ethical Ceremonies

Actor Suniel Shetty has taken a significant step towards promoting animal welfare by donating a life-sized mechanical elephant named Umamaheshwara to the Shri Umamaheshwara Veerabhadreshwara Temple in Tavarekere, Karnataka. This initiative, in collaboration with PETA India and CUPA, emphasizes a compassionate approach towards traditional rituals.

The temple’s decision to opt for a mechanical elephant rather than a live one showcases its commitment to providing a safe environment for animals. With the presence of Umamaheshwara, devotees can continue their cultural practices without causing harm to real elephants.

The mechanical elephant was unveiled during a ceremonial event at the temple, where it was welcomed with traditional rituals and the lively sounds of Mangala Vadhyam. This makes the temple the first in the Davanagere district to implement such innovative technology, allowing them to uphold rituals while ensuring animal welfare.

The inauguration was attended by several notable figures, including Davanagere MLA Basavaraju V Shivaganga, who officially introduced the mechanical elephant. Others present included Dr. Dhananjaya Sarji, Range Forest Officer of Channagiri Range, former MLA Shwetha Viswanath, and K. Madal Virupakshappa. Spiritual leaders such as Renuka Shivacharaya Swamiji and Shri Rachoteshwara Shivacharaya Swamiji also marked the occasion with their presence.

Speaking about this initiative, Suniel Shetty shared, “Wild elephants are important for our ecosystem, helping to spread seeds and play a role in fighting climate change. I am excited to partner with PETA India and CUPA on this important project, which allows us to honor our traditions while caring for our planet’s wildlife.”

This donation highlights a growing awareness and responsibility towards animal welfare within cultural practices, paving the way for a more compassionate future.
