Google has introduced its popular “Circle to Search” feature for iPhone users, providing an innovative way to conduct visual searches. This tool, which first launched for Android devices in 2024, allows users to seek information directly from what they see on their screens. Although the iPhone version does have some restrictions, it still offers a smooth way to delve into visual content.
### How It Works on iPhones
On iPhones, the feature is known as “Screen Search with Google Lens” and requires users to have the Google Lens app installed. Unlike the version available on Android, this tool is not integrated across the entire system. Instead, it’s confined to Google apps and Chrome. Users can easily access it through the three-dot menu in these applications, enabling them to tap, highlight, or draw circles around objects to perform searches instantly.
### Enhanced Navigation in Chrome
One of the key benefits of this feature is how it enhances web browsing in the Chrome app on iOS. Instead of resorting to taking screenshots or toggling between tabs, users can visually search for information about objects they come across while surfing the web. Google is also planning to add a Lens icon in the Chrome address bar soon, which will make the feature even more accessible.
### AI-Powered Product Insights
In addition to visual search, Google is enriching Google Lens with new AI capabilities. The upcoming AI Overview feature will deliver more in-depth context about various objects, including landmarks, plants, and products. This valuable information will be shown alongside search results, allowing users to gain a deeper understanding of what they’re investigating.
### A Global Update for Improved Searches
Users on both Android and iPhone will continue to leverage Google Lens’s extensive image database, which can recognize billions of objects. With continuous advancements in AI, searches will become even more insightful, letting users explore images more thoroughly. These updates will roll out globally, ensuring that iPhone users can access Google’s state-of-the-art AI search tools.
