Madhya Pradesh: A Leader in Cleanliness and Waste Management

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh, known for being the cleanest state in India, is using its success in waste management to boost the country’s soft power on the global stage. The state’s effective waste management strategies are being recognized as a model for other nations.

Even before the COVID-19 pandemic, over 12 countries sent delegates to Madhya Pradesh between 2019 and earlier to learn about its sustainable waste management practices. Now, the state is gearing up to extend its expertise to more countries.

On February 3, the sixth ITEC Training Programme on sustainable packaging kicked off at the Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP) in Delhi. This 10-day program attracts participants from 13 countries, including Uganda, Tanzania, Bangladesh, Chile, and Mexico. Tanweer Alam, additional director of IIP, emphasized that this institute functions under the Union Ministry of Commerce and aims to enhance international skills and diplomatic ties.

Sarthak, the director of a Bhopal-based organization, recently stated, “We are collaborating with Nepal to clean up the Himalayas. In 2011, the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) adopted Bhopal’s best practices for material resource recovery. We are now inviting more nations to learn about our waste management and recycling techniques.”

Madhya Pradesh’s efforts in waste management are paving the way for stronger international cooperation and sustainability practices, marking its place as a leader in environmental initiatives.
