Rachin Ravindra Hurt in Catch Attempt During Pakistan Tri-Series Match
In a concerning moment during the first match of the tri-series against Pakistan, New Zealand opener Rachin Ravindra was injured while trying to take a catch on Saturday, February 8, in Lahore. The incident occurred in the 38th over of Pakistan’s innings, which was bowled by Michael Bracewell.
As Khushdil Shah hit the ball high towards deep square leg, where Ravindra was positioned, he struggled to track the ball properly under the lights. Unfortunately, it struck him directly in the face, causing significant injury.
Following the impact, Ravindra collapsed on the ground, bleeding heavily near his eye. He was quickly taken off the field, with the team physiotherapist using a towel to stop the bleeding.
Despite his injury, Ravindra made a small contribution to his team’s performance, scoring 25 runs off 19 balls before being dismissed. With the ball, he bowled three overs and conceded 14 runs. New Zealand, however, secured a solid victory over Pakistan, winning by 78 runs at Gaddafi Stadium.
Glenn Phillips Shines with Outstanding Performance
New Zealand’s innings began with a bang as they chose to bat first, accumulating an impressive total of 330 runs for the loss of six wickets in their 50 overs. Glenn Phillips stood out, scoring his first-ever ODI century with an outstanding 106 runs off just 74 balls. He received support from Daryl Mitchell, who contributed 81 runs, and Kane Williamson with 58 runs. For Pakistan, Shaheen Afridi was the standout bowler, taking 3 wickets for 88 runs, while Abrar Ahmed picked up 2 wickets for 42 runs.
In response, Pakistan struggled, getting all out for 252 runs in 47.5 overs. Mitchell Santner and Matt Henry were pivotal for New Zealand, each claiming three wickets. Fakhar Zaman was the standout player for Pakistan, scoring a commendable 84 runs off 69 balls with seven fours and four sixes. Glenn Phillips was named Player of the Match for his century, along with a bowling performance that included taking the valuable wicket of Zaman.
