Novak Djokovic Silent on Coaching Future with Andy Murray Following Australian Open Injury

Djokovic’s Future with Coach Murray in Question After Australian Open Exit

Novak Djokovic, the 24-time Grand Slam champion, has left his future with coach Andy Murray uncertain following his recent retirement in the semi-finals of the Australian Open. Djokovic confirmed that he has only positive thoughts about Murray but stated that they will discuss their player-coach relationship once they have had time to process this disappointing result.

The collaboration between Djokovic and Murray came as a surprise to many in the tennis world when they teamed up for the Australian leg of the 2025 tour. Their rapport was clear from the start, particularly during the Australian Open, where Murray provided crucial guidance from Djokovic’s coaching box during matches.

The mood shifted dramatically during the men’s singles semi-final against Alexander Zverev. After losing the first set, Djokovic was forced to retire due to an aggravated muscle injury, much to Murray’s visible disappointment. The Serbian player had been struggling with pain, having played through significant discomfort in both the semi-final and during his quarter-final win over Carlos Alcaraz, where he was heavily strapped on his left leg.

"I don’t know what will happen next," Djokovic told reporters after the match. "We were both disappointed, so we haven’t yet discussed future steps. It’s hard to think about what comes next right after a match like this. Once things settle, I will definitely talk to Andy and thank him for his support."

Djokovic was clear that he is not considering retirement. "I will give my feedback, which is positive, and see how he feels before we decide on the next steps. We both need to cool off a bit first," he added.

Connection Between Djokovic and Murray Growing Stronger

Following his quarter-final victory, Djokovic expressed how much he appreciates his connection with Murray. The former world No. 1 joined Djokovic’s team after the 2024 season, which ended without a Grand Slam title for him. Their time together seemed promising until injury struck during the tournament.

"I feel more connected with Andy every day. We face challenges together, but I try to make the most of each day and grow alongside him," Djokovic mentioned.

Despite the high-pressure atmosphere, Murray remained calm as Djokovic expressed his emotions during matches. After Djokovic’s win against Alcaraz, the two shared a warm embrace, revealing the bond they have developed.

As Djokovic begins his recovery, fans and observers will be watching closely to see if this unique partnership, born out of former rivalry, will continue.
