India and U.S. Sign Cybercrime Cooperation Agreement

India and the United States have recently signed an important agreement aimed at improving collaboration in tackling cybercrime. This partnership was announced by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and represents a significant step in strengthening the security ties between the two nations.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was officially signed on January 17, 2025, in Washington, D.C. The signing was attended by Indian Ambassador Vinay Kwatra and Kristie Canegallo, the Acting U.S. Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security.

This agreement comes at a pivotal moment as the current U.S. administration prepares for a transition to a new leadership. The MEA highlighted that the MoU will enhance cooperation and training between law enforcement agencies in both countries, focusing on utilizing cyber threat intelligence and digital forensics in ongoing criminal investigations.

In India, the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre, known as I4C, under the Ministry of Home Affairs, will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of this agreement. Meanwhile, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will manage the MoU through its various agencies, including U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Cyber Crimes Center of Homeland Security Investigations.

This new collaboration is a positive step towards addressing the growing challenges of cybercrime and showcases the commitment of both governments to work together in creating a safer digital environment.
