NEW DELHI: On Tuesday, Indian police took opposition leader Rahul Gandhi into custody during protests in New Delhi that were spearheaded by young activists calling for changes in education. This followed his demands for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to step down.

The capital witnessed a second day of significant demonstrations led by the emerging “cockroach” movement, which is advocating for reforms in the educational system and is urging the education minister to resign due to ongoing testing controversies.

Thousands of people participated in the protests, which escalated on Monday, leading to confrontations with the police.
