Smriti Mandhana Makes History by Scoring 4000 Runs in ODIs

Smriti Mandhana has etched her name in cricket history by becoming the fastest Indian woman to score 4,000 runs in One-Day Internationals (ODIs). She reached this impressive milestone during India’s first ODI match against Ireland on January 10, held at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot. With this achievement, she joins an elite group, becoming the 15th woman worldwide to surpass the 4,000-run mark and only the second Indian, following in the footsteps of Mithali Raj.

Mandhana hit this notable landmark in the ninth over while chasing a target, taking a single off Arlene Kelly. Stepping in as captain for the resting Harmanpreet Kaur, she played a lively innings, scoring 41 runs off just 29 balls. A significant partnership of 70 runs with newcomer Pratika Rawal helped set a strong foundation for India in their chase for 239 runs.

A New Record for Mandhana

This match marked Mandhana’s 95th ODI, making her the fastest Indian woman and the third-fastest overall to reach 4,000 runs. Notably, she achieved this in fewer than 100 innings, making her the first Indian woman to do so. Mithali Raj continues to lead as India’s top run-scorer in women’s ODIs with 7,805 runs, while Mandhana now holds the second spot.

Mandhana’s performances have been invaluable for Team India. She concluded 2024 as the top run-scorer in both ODIs and T20Is, setting the record for the most international runs by a woman cricketer in a single calendar year. Furthermore, she scored a century in India’s only Test match of 2024 and logged four ODI centuries, the highest by any player ever in a year.

The series against Ireland is crucial for India as it is their last assignment in the ICC Women’s Championship 2025, before focusing on the Women’s Premier League. Mandhana has started 2025 on a high, building on her impressive form from the previous year.

With her knack for delivering in key moments and her consistent performance, Smriti Mandhana has solidified her status as one of the top batters in women’s cricket, continuing the legacy of Indian legends like Mithali Raj.
