Afghanistan’s Ghazanfar Sets New ODI Record as Teenager
Afghanistan’s young bowler, AM Ghazanfar, has made history by becoming the first teenager to take multiple five-wicket hauls in One Day Internationals (ODIs). The 18-year-old achieved this remarkable milestone during the third and final ODI against Zimbabwe on Saturday, December 21, at the Harare Sports Club.
Earlier this November, Ghazanfar made headlines when he became the fifth-youngest player to take a five-wicket haul at just 18 years and 231 days old. In that match, he shone against Bangladesh, finishing with impressive figures of 6 wickets for just 26 runs. His performance was crucial in leading Afghanistan to a 92-run victory.
Ghazanfar is now in elite company, joining other teenage bowling talents who have also secured five-wicket hauls in ODIs. Notable names on this list include Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Waqar Younis, Rashid Khan, and Wasim Akram, showcasing the depth of young bowling talent in the cricketing world.
In the match against Zimbabwe, Ghazanfar’s skills were on full display as he played a key role in bowling out the Zimbabwean team for only 127 runs in just 30.1 overs. His impressive bowling performance included taking five wickets for just 33 runs, and he consistently troubled the batsmen, making it difficult for them to settle into the game.
He claimed the wickets of Joylord Gumbie, Ben Curran, Tadiwanashe Marumani, Wellington Masakadza, and Newman Nyamhuri, demonstrating why he is considered one of the rising stars in international cricket.
