Cocktail 2 Receives CBFC Approval with Minor Changes
On June 14, it was reported that the highly anticipated film Cocktail 2 has secured an ‘A’ certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Let’s take a closer look at the modifications that were made to the film, starring Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, and Rashmika Mandanna.
In a positive turn of events, the CBFC did not require any visual cuts, meaning all romantic and intimate scenes remain in the film. However, a few changes were requested regarding audio. One foul word present in the subtitles has been removed, and the term ‘Agni’ was replaced with ‘Diya’ throughout the film.
Additionally, a reference to “Jew on the run” was censored, though the CBFC did not clarify the context in which this phrase was used. As a result, it’s unclear if it was meant to refer to a specific person or project, or if it was simply used as a general expression.
After these adjustments, Cocktail 2 was officially approved with an ‘A’ rating on June 16. The film has a runtime of 149 minutes and 19 seconds, which translates to just over 2 hours and 29 minutes.
The original Cocktail, released in 2012, featured Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone, and newcomer Diana Penty. Directed by Homi Adajania and produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films, it was well-received. The sequel is written by Tarun Jain and Luv Ranjan, with both Maddock and Luv Films involved in production.
Scheduled for release on June 19, Cocktail 2 will be the first adult-rated film in Kriti Sanon’s career spanning 12 years. For Rashmika Mandanna, this marks her second ‘A’-rated Hindi film following the recent success of Animal (2023). Meanwhile, Shahid Kapoor will be featured in his fifth adult-rated film, with his previous adult roles in Kaminey (2009), Udta Punjab (2016), Kabir Singh (2019), and O’Romeo (2026). Interestingly, O’Romeo was his last release, making it the first time he has two consecutive adult-rated films.
