Anoushka Shankar is set to make waves on an international stage! The talented sitar player has received two prestigious GRAMMY nominations. Her solo album, “Chapter II: How Dark It Is Before Dawn,” is up for Best New Age, Ambient, or Chant Album, while her collaboration on “A Rock Somewhere” with Jacob Collier and Varijashree Venugopal is nominated for Best Global Performance. Anoushka is known for her unique ability to blend different musical styles, from classical to contemporary and even electronic. As the daughter of the legendary sitar master Pandit Ravi Shankar, she has now achieved a total of 11 GRAMMY nominations throughout her impressive career.
Shankar’s journey in the GRAMMY world began in 2002 when she became the first Indian woman and the youngest nominee in the World Music category for her album “Live at Carnegie Hall.” In 2005, she made history as the first Indian artist to perform at the GRAMMYs, and in 2016, she took on the role of presenter at the awards ceremony. Over the years, she has showcased her talents multiple times, including a memorable performance during the pandemic and another with Arooj Aftab last year. Anoushka has been recognized for several of her albums, including “Rise,” “Traveller,” “Traces of You,” “Home,” “Land of Gold,” “Love Letters,” and “Between Us…”
Looking ahead, 2025 promises to be a significant year for Anoushka Shankar as she marks 30 years of her musical journey. She has plans for a U.S. tour in March 2025, a European tour in the summer, and an India tour in December 2025. This tour will coincide with the release of her eagerly awaited third installment in her album series, ensuring that her innovative approach to music continues to captivate audiences around the world.
