IND vs AUS, 3rd Test: Gabba Groundskeeper Hints at Quick and Lively Pitch

India is gearing up for their third Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Brisbane. The last time India played at this ground, they clinched a memorable victory on the final day, leading them to win the series 2-1.

David Sandurski, the curator of the Brisbane pitch, spoke with the media on December 11, just three days before the match. He noted that the pitch at the Gabba varies from the beginning to the end of the season. According to Sandurski, there are noticeable differences between fresher wickets and those that have seen more wear and tear as the season progresses.

“Different times of the year definitely lead to different conditions on the pitch,” Sandurski explained. “Wickets later in the season can become more worn out compared to those earlier on, which tend to be a bit fresher and may offer more to the players.”

He also mentioned that they are not making any special changes to favor fast bowlers. The first two Tests in the series had pitches that provided good bounce, with players like Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant facing challenges due to the lively nature of the Adelaide pitch.

“We prepare the pitch in the same way each time to maintain the good carry, pace, and bounce that the Gabba is famous for. Our aim is to create a traditional Gabba wicket each year,” he concluded.

This match represents the third encounter in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, following two more Tests to be held in Melbourne and Sydney. Currently, the series is tied at 1-1, with Australia looking to build on their recent momentum. Historically, the Australians have not won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at home in their last two attempts.
