A new and captivating series called “Black Warrant” is set to premiere on Netflix, bringing a fresh perspective to the world of crime dramas. Created by Vikramaditya Motwane, best known for the acclaimed series “Sacred Games,” this show takes viewers behind the walls of Tihar Jail, Asia’s largest prison. The story follows a young jailer, Sunil Gupta, who navigates the challenges and moral dilemmas he faces in a brutal environment filled with high-profile criminal cases.

“Black Warrant” is not just entertainment; it’s a dramatized adaptation of the book “Black Warrant: Confessions of a Tihar Jailer,” written by Sunil Gupta and Sunetra Choudhury. Set against the backdrop of the 1980s, the series offers a fictionalized account of true events, showcasing the struggles and complexities of life inside the prison.

Motwane shared his enthusiasm about the project, stating, “The book is raw and intense, and it needed to be brought to life. Working with Netflix and our production partners has been an amazing experience, and I’m thankful for their support in telling this story authentically.”

Sameer Nair, the Managing Director of Applause Entertainment, expressed his excitement about the series, noting that it dives into the often-overlooked history of Tihar Jail. He emphasized the significance of teaming up with Motwane, highlighting the importance of presenting the story with depth and realism. This collaboration with Netflix aims to share a compelling narrative that offers a rare glimpse into a hidden world.

Tanya Bami, who oversees Netflix India, shared her enthusiasm for starting 2025 with this distinctive series. She noted that true crime has become a popular genre for Netflix members and mentioned how thrilled they are to work again with Motwane and his team. “Black Warrant” promises to be a standout entry in the crime genre.

Viewers can look forward to uncovering untold stories of Tihar Jail through the experiences of one of India’s longest-serving jailers. “Black Warrant” will be available exclusively on Netflix, offering an intriguing mix of drama and reality.
