Mumbai Police Investigating Threat to PM Modi’s Life
In a concerning development on Saturday, Mumbai police received a threatening message alleging a plan to harm Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The message, which was sent via WhatsApp to the traffic police helpline, reportedly involved claims about a bomb plot linked to two suspected ISI agents, according to authorities.
The message was traced back to a number in Ajmer, Rajasthan, leading the police to quickly dispatch a team to track down the sender. Officials mentioned that initial findings suggest the individual may have a mental health issue or could be intoxicated at the time of sending the message.
A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed under applicable sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita to initiate a thorough investigation. Authorities noted that the Mumbai traffic police helpline has previously dealt with false threats.
This incident follows closely on the heels of another case where a 34-year-old woman named Sheetal Chavan was arrested for threatening the Prime Minister’s life. Chavan contacted the police control room claiming she was ready with weapons. Investigations revealed that she acted out of frustration, having no prior criminal background or links to any groups, as stated by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Dikshit Gedam.
Threat to UP Chief Minister as Well
In a separate but related incident, a 24-year-old woman named Fatima Khan was arrested on November 3 for allegedly issuing threats against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. She sent a message to the Mumbai Police Traffic Control Room warning that Adityanath would be killed within ten days unless he resigned from his position.
Khan, who holds a degree in Information Technology, was apprehended in Ulhasnagar, a region in Thane district.
The swift actions by the police highlight ongoing concerns about threats aimed at public figures and the importance of addressing such serious allegations promptly.
