Venture capital firm Molten Ventures has announced a significant financial win, achieving over seven times its investment return after selling its stake in M-Files, a file management company.
The firm, which is listed in London and Dublin, reported that this latest exit has brought their total earnings for the financial year to £124 million, surpassing initial forecasts by 25%. Following this news, the company’s shares increased by just over 1%.
Ben Wilkinson, CEO of Molten Ventures, expressed satisfaction with the impressive returns achieved this year. He noted that many of these realizations occurred at or above their holding values, highlighting the quality of their investment portfolio and careful valuation strategies.
“This successful exit from M-Files, along with our other transactions, has generated substantial cash that positions us well for exciting new investment opportunities,” Wilkinson stated.
Molten Ventures first invested in M-Files back in 2013 during a €6 million (£5 million) Series A funding round. Since then, they continued their support with additional funding of €33 million in Series B in 2016 and €67 million in Series C in 2021.
M-Files offers a platform that helps businesses streamline document creation and workflow management. Recently, the company has integrated generative AI technology into its services, enabling users to pose complex queries to its digital assistant.
Wilkinson emphasized that despite surpassing their initial expectations for the year, there is still potential for smaller exits in the future. He reiterated that their primary focus remains on managing their portfolio actively to ensure strong returns for investors.
Founded in 2006, Molten Ventures has emerged as one of London’s leading venture capital firms, with past investments in companies like Trustpilot, N26, and Revolut. Earlier this year, Molten also made headlines by acquiring fellow London VC firm Forward Partners, a deal announced last November.
In another notable move, Molten raised the value of its investment in Revolut to £65.1 million in June.
