Young Australian Cricketer Aims to Challenge Jasprit Bumrah
Rising Australian cricketer Sam Konstas recently expressed his eagerness to take on India’s star bowler Jasprit Bumrah. This excitement followed Konstas’s impressive performance with the bat, where he scored 107 runs from 97 balls for the Prime Minister’s XI in a warm-up match against India.
Despite his stellar innings, Konstas didn’t get the chance to face Bumrah, who was resting during this particular match. After his century, Konstas praised Bumrah, calling him the best fast bowler in the world, and he looks forward to the opportunity to face him someday. The 19-year-old showed confidence in his skills and enjoyed playing against a strong Indian team.
“I’ve been watching Bumrah a lot. He is a very talented player and probably the best out there. I hope I can face him one day and see how it goes. I feel confident in my game as I have been training hard, and it’s wonderful to play against great players,” Konstas said in an interview.
Additionally, Konstas revealed that he’s been training with former Australian captain Tim Paine, who has given him advice on handling a 46-over match. “I have been practicing a bit with Tim Paine, who told us to be intent on putting pressure on the other team and to treat it like a 46-over game. I focused on keeping things simple and sticking to my plans,” he explained.
Konstas Faces Competition for Australian Spot
Though Konstas had a strong performance, he was not selected as Australia’s new opener for the ongoing series; that spot went to Nathan McSweeney, who impressed selectors with his leadership and two match-winning knocks in unofficial Tests against India A. However, McSweeney also struggled in his Test debut in Perth, scoring only 10 and 0 while facing Bumrah.
Australia’s top order is currently under pressure after losing the Perth Test, raising questions about some players’ places in the team. Konstas’s century could not have come at a better time for Australia as they look to bounce back in the second Test in Adelaide. The young batter remains hopeful about being included in the upcoming matches of the series.
