PV Sindhu Sets Sights on Future After Syed Modi International Win

Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu is determined to keep competing at a high level in badminton, planning to continue her career for the next few years. Although the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics is on her mind, her main focus right now is to stay fit and consistent as she navigates the later stages of her professional journey.

Sindhu expressed her joy after winning the Syed Modi International badminton title, marking a significant comeback after a long wait for a championship. She sees this victory as a hopeful sign and believes it could be the start of an exciting new chapter in her career. At 29, the former world champion knows the importance of staying injury-free to maintain her top performance on the global stage.

"This win gives me a lot of confidence. Being 29 has its advantages, as I bring a wealth of experience. It’s all about being smart and using that experience," Sindhu shared with reporters. "Of course, my main goal is to stay injury-free. The Los Angeles Olympics feels far away at this point, but if I remain fit, I will definitely participate and enjoy the sport."

Sindhu celebrated her title win on Sunday as her first since July 2022 and expressed hope that it marks the beginning of her comeback, aiming for more victories ahead. She also mentioned the need to be strategic about her upcoming tournaments.

"I’m thrilled to finish with a win. Now, I’ll take a moment to relax and prepare to start again in January. I hope this marks my comeback and I am excited for more wins," Sindhu said.

Looking ahead, she plans to compete in tournaments in Malaysia, India, Indonesia, and Thailand, emphasizing the need to be selective in her choices moving forward. "I have to think carefully about which tournaments to enter to make sure I’m playing smartly," she added.

Sindhu’s success at the Syed Modi International coincided with a great day for India, as Lakshya Sen and the duo of Treesa and Gayatri also secured titles, making it a memorable event for Indian badminton.
