Phil Salt, the English cricketer, is thrilled about joining the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. RCB secured Salt in a fierce bidding war, with his price reaching an impressive INR 11.50 crore, beating out interest from the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). This marks Salt’s third stint in the IPL after his time with the Delhi Capitals and KKR.
In a recent interview, Salt expressed his admiration for Virat Kohli, RCB’s star player who has been with the team since the league began in 2008. He shared that he has always respected Kohli and enjoyed light-hearted interactions with him during matches.
“I have a great deal of respect for Virat. We’ve often joked around when facing each other, and now I can’t wait to be on the same team as him,” Salt noted in his conversation with ESPNCricinfo.
Salt also spoke highly of RCB’s bold style of play, recalling how he used to eagerly watch their matches. “They have a clear strategy of playing aggressively. Their batting line-up has always been exceptional, and they’re known for their strong personalities on the field,” he said.
He mentioned that RCB was one of the teams he would always watch during previous IPL seasons. “With Andy Flower and Mo Bobat involved, I’m excited to play under their guidance. I believe we share similar views on cricket, which I think will help us succeed together,” he added.
Salt has made a significant mark in the IPL, accumulating 653 runs in 21 matches, with an average of 34.36 and an impressive strike rate of 173.53. Last season, he was instrumental in KKR’s title victory, especially with his strong opening partnerships alongside Sunil Narine.
With his experience and skills, fans are eagerly anticipating how Salt will contribute to RCB’s campaign this season.
