Jess Jonassen Omitted as Flintoff Secures First Cricket Australia Women’s Contract

Australia has recently announced its roster of contracted female players for the 2025/26 season, and the list includes some exciting names. Notably, Tess Flintoff has earned her first full-time contract, while Georgia Voll also received her first national contract after a remarkable debut season, which featured an impressive ODI century and recognition as the ICC Player of the Month for March.

However, the announcement also brought some surprise as veteran all-rounder Jess Jonassen, a six-time World Cup champion, was left out of the contracted players. She has not played for the Australian team since late 2023.

Australia’s selector, Shawn Flegler, expressed support for the new additions, stating that both Voll and Flintoff deserved their promotions. He also mentioned that Jonassen and other players still have opportunities to make their mark. “Tess is a young talent with a bright future ahead in the Australian team,” Flegler said, highlighting his anticipation of her return to full fitness and her potential contribution to the team’s pace attack.

He praised Georgia Voll’s strong start in international cricket, particularly noting her key role in the team while Alyssa Healy was absent.

Despite experiencing a shoulder injury during the 2024 T20 World Cup, Tayla Vlaeminck has managed to retain her central contract as she continues her recovery.

Players not included on the primary contract list can still earn contracts throughout the year by accumulating points through matches—five points for Tests, and two points each for ODIs and T20Is.

With an ODI World Cup scheduled later this year and a multi-format series against India on the horizon, Flegler emphasized the importance of adaptability among players. He assured that even though Jonassen is currently not on the contracted list, she remains on their radar.

The complete list of Australia’s contracted women players for the 2025/26 season includes: Darcie Brown, Tess Flintoff, Ashleigh Gardner, Kim Garth, Heather Graham, Grace Harris, Alyssa Healy, Alana King, Phoebe Litchfield, Tahlia McGrath, Sophie Molineux, Beth Mooney, Ellyse Perry, Megan Schutt, Annabel Sutherland, Tayla Vlaeminck, Georgia Voll, and Georgia Wareham.
