Rahane Shines as a Role Model for KKR, Says Assistant Coach Ottis Gibson
KKR’s assistant coach, Ottis Gibson, has praised Ajinkya Rahane, calling him a shining example for the young players in the team, much like renowned cricketers MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli. Despite being picked up for just his base price during the auction, Rahane has emerged as KKR’s top performer this season and is now leading the defending champions as captain.
In just six matches, Rahane has scored 204 runs, boasting an average of 40.8 and an impressive strike rate of 154.54. Under his leadership, the team achieved its third victory of the season, securing the third spot in the standings with a significant win against CSK on April 11. After the match, Gibson highlighted the positive influence Rahane has on his teammates.
Gibson shared that Rahane dedicates 20 minutes each day to fine-tuning his technique before games, demonstrating his commitment to excellence. He explained, "When working with young players, we often look for role models. While names like MS Dhoni or Virat Kohli come to mind, Jinks (Rahane) serves as an inspiring example for everyone in our dressing room."
He further remarked on Rahane’s calm demeanor and confidence when at the crease, noting that he rarely plays risky shots. "He keeps the ball on the ground, and when it’s game time, he knows his game plan. His strike rate exceeds 150. He diligently practices his approach daily, and this confidence and composure is something our younger players can learn from."
Looking ahead, KKR is set to face PBKS in Mullanpur on April 15, and all eyes will be on Rahane as he continues to lead by example.
