England’s Harry Brook on Exiting IPL: A Tough Call, But the Right One

Harry Brook Discusses IPL Decision and New Role as England Captain

England’s new captain for ODIs and T20Is, Harry Brook, recently shared that deciding to skip the IPL this season was a tough choice but ultimately the right one for him. Brook was signed by the Delhi Capitals for 6.5 crore rupees but chose to step back just as the IPL 2025 season was about to start. He also noted that he is the first player to face a three-year ban from the IPL due to a new rule.

In comments reported by the ICC, Brook explained that he needed to manage his workload after being heavily involved in cricket for the past year and a half. He expressed uncertainty about how much franchise cricket he will engage in going forward, emphasizing that his main focus will always be on representing the England national team.

"Taking this time off after opting out of the IPL was the best decision for me," Brook said. "It wasn’t easy, but I need to prioritize my workload. I’ve played a lot of cricket recently, and it’s likely to increase in the future."

Brook also expressed his pride in being named the new captain of England’s white-ball team after Jos Buttler stepped down following a disappointing Champions Trophy. The 26-year-old welcomed the opportunity and looks forward to the journey ahead.

“It’s a proud moment for me and everyone who has supported my career,” Brook stated. “I learned about my new role last week when Rob Key and Brendon McCullum called me, and I embraced the opportunity. I’m excited about what lies ahead.”

As Brook takes on this new responsibility, he is committed to making his mark on the team while balancing the demands of the game. His focus remains clear: playing for England and contributing as best as he can.
