Dharma Productions and Gippy Grewal Join Forces for Epic Pan-India Film ‘Akaal’ in Punjabi and Hindi

Dharma Productions, a major player in Indian cinema, is set to make waves with its latest collaboration on the much-anticipated film Akaal, featuring the talented Gippy Grewal. This partnership signifies Dharma’s entry into the Punjabi film industry, presenting the movie in both Punjabi and Hindi to reach audiences across the nation. Notably, it will be the first Punjabi film to also be released in Hindi, marking a historic achievement.

Karan Johar, the head of Dharma Productions, expressed excitement about the project, stating, “We are thrilled to partner with Gippy Grewal and Humble Motion Pictures on Akaal. This film powerfully represents Punjab’s history and culture, and we are dedicated to sharing this important narrative with a wider audience across India in both languages. We truly believe in the strength of this story and its ability to resonate with people.”

Apoorva Mehta from Dharma Productions commented, “At Dharma Productions, we cherish stories that cross boundaries. Akaal pays homage to the courage of Sikh warriors, and we are proud to share it with audiences across India in both Punjabi and Hindi. Working with Gippy Grewal and Humble Motion Pictures allows us to present Punjab’s rich history on a grand scale.”

Gippy Grewal also shared his enthusiasm, stating, "Telling the stories of our Sikh warriors is a personal passion for me. With the support of Dharma Productions, we can make sure Akaal reaches every part of India, showcasing the strength and valor of our heritage."

The film is produced by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, and Bhumika Tewari of Dharma Productions, alongside Gippy Grewal and Ravneet Kaur Grewal of Humble Motion Pictures. Akaal is a historical drama inspired by true events, focusing on the stories of Sikh warriors and their remarkable resilience.

Directed and written by Gippy Grewal, Akaal is set to release during Baisakhi festivities on April 10, 2025. The film features a star-studded cast, including Nimrat Khaira, Gurpreet Ghuggi, Nikitin Dheer, Mita Vashisht, Shinda Grewal, Ekom Grewal, Jaggi Singh, Ashish Duggal, Bhana La, Harinder Bhullar, and Jarnail Singh.
