Teenage Boy Killed in Israeli Airstrike in Jenin

RAMALLAH: A teenage boy lost his life on Saturday due to an Israeli airstrike in the city of Jenin, located in the occupied West Bank. This incident occurred amid a large-scale military operation by Israel in the area.

The Israeli military confirmed that their air force was targeting armed militants in Jenin. According to the Palestinian health ministry in Ramallah, 16-year-old Ahmad al-Sadi was killed following an airstrike in the eastern part of the city. The Palestinian Red Crescent initially reported that he was 14 years old and noted that two others were injured in the attack.

The health ministry described the condition of the injured individuals as critical. Jenin’s governor, Kamal Abu al-Rub, stated that the casualties occurred when a drone attacked the group while they were on the street.

Last month, Israel began a military operation named "Iron Wall," which aims to dismantle Palestinian groups in the Jenin area, which has been under Israeli occupation since 1967. Jenin and its neighboring refugee camp have long been known for Palestinian militancy, and tensions have escalated since the outbreak of conflict in Gaza on October 7, 2023.

Since the conflict began, the Palestinian health ministry reports that at least 877 Palestinians have been killed, mostly in the West Bank. In the same timeframe, official Israeli data indicates that at least 30 Israelis have died either in Palestinian attacks or during military operations in the region.

On Thursday, the Palestinian health ministry reported that two more Palestinians were killed in Jenin following the announcement of an Israeli soldier’s death in the territory. A separate Israeli strike in the Tamun area resulted in the deaths of ten Palestinians on Wednesday, with the military claiming it targeted specific locations.

Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz visited the Jenin refugee camp on Wednesday and emphasized that the military operation was focused on eliminating "terror infrastructure" supported by Iran.
