Prayagraj: A Global Gathering at Maha Kumbh Mela

A large group of 118 delegates, including Heads of Mission and their partners from 77 different countries, arrived at the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj on Saturday. This event, one of the largest spiritual gatherings in the world, has drawn international attention.

The Slovak Ambassador to India, Robert Maxian, shared his excitement about attending the Mela. He praised the Indian government for hosting such a significant event, saying, "I want to congratulate your government for organizing this great spiritual event… I feel at home in India."

The Argentine Ambassador, Mariano Caucino, also voiced his enthusiasm about being part of the celebration, emphasizing the importance of following traditions.

Local BJP leader Sidharth Nath Singh welcomed the ambassadors, noting the excitement surrounding their visit. "Ambassadors and High Commissioners have come to participate in the Maha Kumbh. We should give them a warm welcome," he stated.

Stella Nkomo, the Zimbabwean Ambassador, called the experience "once-in-a-lifetime," highlighting that diplomatic duties also involve cultural exchange. "This is a cultural diplomacy where we seek to understand India deeply. We are grateful to the state of Uttar Pradesh for hosting us,” she said.

Christian Villarreal, the Bolivian Head of Mission in India, reflected on the significance of the event, remarking that nothing compares to the Maha Kumbh. "I had the privilege to be invited to Diwali a year and a half ago, but this occasion is unique. It happens only once every 144 years," he expressed.

On the same day, over 5.42 million devotees immersed themselves in the sacred waters at the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mystical Saraswati. Among them, more than 1 million were Kalpavasis, and 4.42 million were pilgrims who visited the Triveni waters.

Since the Mela started, over 314.6 million people have participated, making it a remarkable gathering of faith and devotion. The Maha Kumbh Mela, celebrated every 144 years, is deeply rooted in Hindu mythology and continues to attract spiritual seekers from all walks of life.

The ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj began on January 13 and will last until February 26, 2025, offering a unique opportunity for spiritual rejuvenation and cultural exchange on a global scale.
