Mohammad Amir: Pakistan Poised to Outshine India in 2025 Champions Trophy

Former Pakistani fast bowler Mohammad Amir believes that Pakistan will have an advantage over India in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The highly anticipated match between the two cricketing giants is set to take place on February 23 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Historically, India has generally performed better against Pakistan in ICC tournaments, losing just once to them in World Cup history. However, when it comes to the Champions Trophy, Pakistan has had the upper hand, winning three out of five encounters.

Amir recently shared his thoughts on this eagerly awaited clash, noting that Pakistan’s recent series victories against Australia and South Africa could give them an edge. He pointed out that India has been struggling lately, dealing with criticism after a series of losses.

“The way Pakistan has been playing—beating Australia on their home turf and then triumphing over South Africa—highlights their strength, especially in challenging conditions. Based on their recent form, I believe Pakistan will have the upper hand against India. Although India is my favorite in major tournaments, they are currently under pressure,” Amir commented.

Amir also addressed concerns surrounding Indian bowler Jasprit Bumrah’s potential absence from the tournament. He emphasized that without Bumrah, India’s bowling attack would significantly weaken.

“It would be a big blow for India if Bumrah isn’t available. He has been a key player, leading the bowling lineup. Without him, the Indian attack would lose about 40-50 percent of its strength,” he added.

Regarding Bumrah’s fitness, he sustained an injury during the fifth Test against Australia in Sydney. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has advised him to visit the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru for further assessment. While he may still be included in the provisional squad for the Champions Trophy, a final decision will depend on his recovery progress.
