Rohit Shetty, known for his popular cop films, is set to produce a new movie that honors the life of the esteemed former Joint Commissioner of Mumbai Police, Rakesh Maria. Over the last 15 years, Shetty has released five successful films in the cop genre and is currently working on “Golmaal 5.” This new project highlights his long-standing friendship with Maria and aims to celebrate his heroic contributions to law enforcement.

Sources close to the project indicate that Shetty has been eager to bring Maria’s story to the big screen. The script for the biopic is already finalized, and filming is expected to begin in the summer of 2025. John Abraham is confirmed to star in the lead role, portraying the celebrated cop, Rakesh Maria. He is excited to partner with Shetty for this unique film, which will stand alone rather than being part of Shetty’s existing cop universe.

This film marks another significant production for Shetty following “Singham Again,” and it is anticipated to debut in theaters in 2026. The collaboration between Shetty and Abraham promises to be captivating, as they work together to tell the inspiring story of one of real-life India’s most notable police officers.
