Sunil Gavaskar expressed his delight at Sanju Samson’s performance during the second T20I match against Afghanistan in Delhi. Samson scored an impressive 57 runs off just 22 balls, leading India to a convincing seven-wicket victory. However, his innings began slowly.
After a disappointing showing in the first match of the series, the Indian wicketkeeper started cautiously, with just 8 runs from 12 balls at one point. Once he found his rhythm, Samson unleashed his batting skills, reaching his half-century in just 20 balls.
Gavaskar commented during the broadcast that consistency is key for Samson’s success. He emphasized that if Samson can maintain this measured approach, especially in smaller chases, he is likely to score frequently and build his confidence.
“It’s all about being consistent,” Gavaskar said. “The openers usually get the most chances to score, and today, he took his time before going for the big shots. If he continues this way, he’ll consistently score 50s and 60s.”
He also noted that Samson tends to struggle when he tries to hit too aggressively from the start. “When he aims to smash the ball from the first ball, that can lead to trouble. But if the target is high, sometimes he has no choice. He’s a fantastic player,” Gavaskar added.
Samson’s stellar performance was crucial in ensuring India secured the series win.
