England Dominates Pakistan in Third Test at Edgbaston

Pakistan faces a challenging situation in the third Test against England at Edgbaston, with the possibility of a 3-0 series defeat looming large. England, who already lead the series 2-0 following convincing wins in Leeds and Lord’s, built a significant first-innings advantage, extending their lead to a staggering 320 runs before the close of play on Thursday. Pakistan ended the day struggling at 52 for 2 after rain curtailed the match prematurely.

In their first innings, Pakistan was bowled out for a mere 133 runs, and now they require an additional 268 runs just to compel England to bat again. As the play ended, Shan Masood was at the crease with 21 runs, while Azan Awais had contributed 29. With three days of play left, Pakistan finds itself in a tough spot.

Ollie Robinson has emerged as the standout bowler of the series, previously taking five wickets in one Test and four in another. During the current match, he claimed three wickets in England’s first innings and added two more in Pakistan’s second. With a remarkable total of 21 wickets at an average of 6.66, Robinson has been a critical factor in England’s success.

England Extends Lead After Pakistan’s Struggles

Starting the day at 156 for 4, England went on to accumulate a total of 453, turning their modest overnight lead into a formidable advantage. Harry Brook scored 75 runs before being run out in a risky attempt for a single, while Dan Lawrence showcased his batting skills with a solid 65 runs. This marked his third consecutive half-century in the series.

Jamie Smith also made a significant contribution, scoring 69 runs despite dealing with a finger injury, while Robinson added a brisk 50, hitting a memorable six into the stands. Pakistan managed to wrap up England’s innings at 453, but the day didn’t yield many positives for them.

Debutant Razaullah stood out for Pakistan, taking four wickets in his first appearance, including the prized scalp of Joe Root. Despite this effort, he faced challenges, conceding 148 runs in 23 overs.

Robinson Strikes Early as Pakistan’s Hopes Dwindle

If Pakistan hoped for a fresh start in their second innings, Robinson quickly dashed those expectations. He took the wicket of Saim Ayub on his first delivery and removed Abdullah Shafique just moments later, leaving Pakistan reeling at 0 for 2.

Ayub’s second duck in the match underscored Pakistan’s ongoing struggles, as the side has not crossed the 200-run mark throughout the series. The team’s batting issues have been evident, having recorded first-innings totals of 171, 110, 175, and 194 in the previous Tests.

Pakistan’s batting coach Mike Smith acknowledged the challenges Robinson poses, describing him as one of the most consistent bowlers in the game today. The current series has laid bare deep-rooted problems for Pakistan, who have lost 15 of their last 20 Tests. While Razaullah’s promising debut offers a glimmer of hope for the future, the present scenario remains dire. England is firmly in charge, and Pakistan now fights to prevent a disappointing 3-0 series loss.
