Coco Gauff demonstrated her incredible resilience and skills with a remarkable comeback victory over Mirra Andreeva, advancing to the semi-finals of the 2026 US Open. Gauff triumphed with scores of 2-6, 7-6, 6-2, setting the stage for an exciting showdown against world number one, Elena Rybakina.

This marks Gauff’s first return to the US Open semi-finals since 2023. The match started poorly for the fourth seed, as Andreeva seemed to be in control, racing ahead while Gauff struggled to find her rhythm. The crowd rallied behind Gauff as she fought back, eventually forcing a tiebreak in the second set.

In a nail-biting moment, Gauff saved two match points, refusing to back down and ultimately took the second set. In the final set, Andreeva’s performance faltered, allowing Gauff to seize the opportunity and claim victory. This semi-final will be a historic moment, as it is only the second time in the Open Era that all top four seeds have progressed to the final four, the last occurrence being in 1975.

### Match Overview

Mirra Andreeva initially dominated the first set, while Coco Gauff struggled significantly. Gauff’s serve and forehand faltered, much to the surprise of the fans who had watched her improve over the past year. Andreeva, riding high after her recent success at the French Open, took advantage of Gauff’s mistakes and quickly secured the first set 6-2.

However, the momentum shifted at the start of the second set, as Andreeva’s errors allowed Gauff to re-enter the match. A tense battle ensued, with neither player able to take control until Gauff brought her aggressive style back into play during the tiebreak.

Facing two match points, Gauff took the initiative and pressured Andreeva, who faltered under the pressure. The tide turned in Gauff’s favor, allowing her to level the match. Her roar of triumph resounded throughout Flushing Meadows, signaling her newfound momentum.

In the decisive third set, Gauff’s confidently chased down shots, while Andreeva’s errors mounted, showcasing her falling confidence. With Gauff maintaining control, she easily wrapped up the match, securing her spot in the semi-finals against the new top-ranked player in the world.

As the tournament progresses, all eyes will be on Gauff as she aims for glory against Rybakina.
