Hyderabad: BJP Plans Assembly Protest Over Fee Reimbursement Delays
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced plans to protest outside the state assembly on Monday, aiming to gather thousands of students and party supporters. This decision comes after the police refused permission for a planned student demonstration at Dharna Chowk. The protest was intended to address a significant issue: ₹15,000 crore in unpaid fee reimbursements and scholarships owed to students.
During a press conference, N Goutham Rao, the state general secretary of the BJP, expressed frustration over the police’s last-minute denial of permission for the “Fee Dues BJP Ladayi” protest, despite the application being submitted five days in advance. Rao stated that if permission was not granted, BJP and BJYM (Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha) workers, along with students from various parts of the state, would head to the assembly at 10 am on Monday.
Rao accused the Congress government of trying to silence opposition voices through preventive arrests and restrictions on peaceful protests. Ganesh Kundan, the state president of BJYM, echoed these sentiments, highlighting that the government’s inaction on student fee reimbursements and scholarships was unacceptable. He noted that the BJP had gathered signatures and representations from about five lakh students as part of their campaign.
Party leaders are urging students and their families, who have been affected by the delays in fee reimbursement, to join the protest at the assembly on Monday. They aim to bring attention to the ongoing struggles faced by many students in the state.
