Dhruv Jurel’s Stunning Catch and Lahiru Udara’s Dismissal Ignite Debate in India-Sri Lanka First Test

India has taken a strong lead in the first Test against Sri Lanka at the Galle International Stadium, putting pressure on the home team as the match heads into the final stages. Sri Lanka, needing 372 runs to win and secure a 1-0 lead in the series, ended the day struggling at 47 for four after losing four wickets.

One key moment in the match was the dismissal of opener Lahiru Udara, which sparked a lot of discussion beyond just the score. This happened in the 22nd over of Sri Lanka’s second innings when Udara, who had batted for a while, edged a ball from Indian spinner Manav Suthar towards wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel.

Jurel seemed to catch the ball cleanly, and the Indian team quickly celebrated and raised their appeal. The on-field umpire, however, decided to consult the third umpire for a detailed review.

After checking the footage, third umpire Raveendra Wimalasiri ruled that Jurel had successfully taken the catch, ending Udara’s innings at 16 runs off 58 balls. But the decision faced criticism when replays suggested that the ball might have brushed the ground before Jurel caught it. Nonetheless, the decision stood, leaving Sri Lanka in a tight spot.

The incident quickly drew reactions from fans online. Some criticized Jurel for what they felt was a questionable catch, while others pointed fingers at the third umpire, arguing that the evidence was too unclear to make a firm call. Jurel’s day didn’t get any better as he was later hit on the leg and needed medical attention to continue.

Now, India is just six wickets away from claiming victory in this match.
