Manpreet Singh Aims for World Cup Glory with Indian Hockey Team

Manpreet Singh has experienced many highs and lows in his journey with Indian hockey. He led the team to a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics and played a crucial role in their back-to-back Olympic success. However, there is one achievement that eludes him—a World Cup medal, and he is on a mission to secure one now.

India’s Campaign Begins Against Wales

As the Indian team prepares to kick off their World Cup journey against Wales on August 15, Manpreet is focused and determined. This tournament marks his fourth World Cup, and he is eager for the team to finish on the podium.

“This World Cup is very special for me as it’s my fourth time participating. We have already celebrated Olympic victories, but a World Cup medal still remains absent. Every player aspires to have both. For me, this might be my last World Cup, so I’m taking it seriously,” Manpreet shared in an interview with JioHotstar.

He expressed confidence in the team’s potential, stating, “We have the experience and talent needed to go all the way. We’ve been preparing thoroughly, and our morale is high. With Indian sports on the rise, it’s time for hockey to shine in the World Cup.”

Preparation and Team Spirit

The Indian team recently wrapped up a three-day training camp in the picturesque Swiss Alps under the guidance of Paddy Upton. Manpreet noted that the team is energized, acknowledging the need to take each match as it comes.

“I completely trust this team. Everyone is thrilled and ready for the World Cup. We’ve learned from past experiences that in tournaments like this, no team should be underestimated,” he explained.

With a mix of seasoned players and fresh talent, the squad has found a good balance. Manpreet, along with senior teammates like Harmanpreet Singh and Mandeep Singh, has been sharing valuable insights with the younger players, preparing them for the challenges ahead.

“Every match in this tournament is crucial. We must approach each game with the right mindset, respecting all our opponents and aiming to win. Our coach has also stressed the importance of fitness, as being in good shape allows us to compete effectively. We’ve focused on strengthening our defense, which will give us the confidence to attack and control the game,” added Manpreet.

Aiming for the Final

Since winning the World Cup in 1975, India has yet to make it to the semi-finals again. Manpreet is hopeful this year will be different and believes the team is capable of reaching the final.

“I genuinely believe we have what it takes to make it to the finals. The team is showing great confidence and commitment in every training session. There’s a positive energy in the camp, and all players are driven to achieve something remarkable. I fully believe we can reach the final,” he stated.

India is placed in Group D alongside Wales, England, and Pakistan, and the excitement for their World Cup campaign is palpable.
