Diljit Dosanjh Fires Back at Punjab Flag Controversies: “How Often Must We Prove Our Love for India?”

Diljit Dosanjh is currently facing criticism regarding his use of the spelling "Panjab" in a tweet promoting his concert in Chandigarh. Many social media users pointed out that this spelling, often linked to the area in Pakistan, was accompanied by the absence of the Indian flag emoji, leading to allegations of him having political intentions.

In a bid to address the backlash, Diljit took to Twitter to clarify his position, dismissing the claims as unfounded conspiracy theories. In his tweet, he shared a screenshot of his original post, stating, "If I forgot to include the India flag with Panjab in just one tweet, you’re calling it a conspiracy. I even missed it in a tweet about Bengaluru. Whether I spell it as Panjab or Punjab, it’s still the same – PANJAB will remain PANJAB."

He went on to highlight the historical significance of the term "Panjab," which translates to "Five Rivers." Diljit expressed his frustration towards those he feels are using the English language to fuel conspiracy theories about him. He sarcastically remarked that in the future, he may write it in Punjabi, adding, “How many more times do we have to prove our love for India? Instead of creating conspiracies, why not do something positive?”

In addition to the social media controversy, Diljit is currently on his Dil-Luminati India Tour. This tour has also seen its fair share of challenges, as the Telangana government has instructed him to refrain from performing songs that promote alcohol, drugs, or violence during his concert in Hyderabad. In retaliation, Diljit has proposed that if the government bans alcohol on the days he performs, he too will stop singing such songs.

The tour is set to continue with a performance in Mumbai on December 19, wrapping up in Guwahati on December 29.
