Steve Smith Thrilled to Be Back in Form with Century Against India

Steve Smith expressed his joy at rediscovering his form after scoring a brilliant century on the second day of the third Test match against India at the Gabba, Brisbane. Smith’s impressive innings of 101 runs off 190 balls included eight boundaries, marking his first Test century in over 18 months.

During the match, Smith formed a crucial 241-run partnership with Travis Head, who scored 152 runs. This partnership helped lift Australia from a precarious position of 75 for 3, allowing them to surpass the 300-run mark.

Following his impressive performance, Smith acknowledged the efforts of the opening batsmen for laying a solid groundwork against the new ball. He noted that he also had a bit of luck early in his innings.

"It felt great. The top three batsmen did well, facing a fair number of balls. The new ball was a challenge, but I got lucky early on and was able to build a partnership with Heady. Watching him play was enjoyable; I had the best seat in the house," Smith explained in an interview with an Australian broadcaster.

Australia Ends Day 2 at 405/7

Looking ahead, Smith expressed his happiness about reaching his century after 25 innings in Test cricket and praised his opening teammates.

"We’ve had a few good partnerships before and hope to build on that. It’s nice to finally reach three figures. Batting has been tough recently, especially against the new ball, so a lot of credit goes to the guys who helped set the stage,” he added.

Thanks to the strong partnership between Smith and Head, Australia finished Day 2 with a commanding score of 405 for 7. Alex Carey and Mitchell Starc were at the crease, with Carey scoring an unbeaten 45 runs and Starc adding 7 runs. For India, Jasprit Bumrah was exceptional, taking 5 wickets for 72 runs in 25 overs, marking his 12th five-wicket haul in Test cricket. Mohammed Siraj and Nitis Kumar Reddy also claimed one wicket each.

Stay tuned for more updates on the ongoing Test series!
