Axar Patel Climbs ICC ODI Rankings After Stellar Performance Against England
Indian all-rounder Axar Patel has made his mark by entering the top 10 of the ICC ODI all-rounders’ rankings following an impressive performance in the first match of the series against England. With a jump of three places, he now sits at ninth position with 213 rating points, showcasing his growing importance in India’s white-ball cricket.
In a thrilling match at Edgbaston, Axar played a key role in India’s six-wicket win. The 32-year-old began by excelling with the ball, taking four wickets for 62 runs, and then contributed significantly with the bat, scoring an unbeaten 57 runs off 52 balls to help India chase down a target of 259 runs with 28 balls to spare. His partnership with Washington Sundar was crucial in giving India a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
Axar’s standout performance led to notable changes in individual player rankings as well. He climbed 18 places in the ODI batting rankings, moving to 73rd, and improved two spots among bowlers to reach 42nd. Over the years, Axar has established himself as a reliable limited-overs player, and these latest rankings highlight his growth as a genuine all-rounder.
India’s Comeback in ODI Rankings
After a disappointing 4-0 loss in the previous T20 series against England, India bounced back with the return of senior players Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, and Jasprit Bumrah, which strengthened the team significantly.
Shubman Gill was a standout performer in the match, scoring 80 runs from 75 balls before leaving the field due to an injury. His innings included 11 fours and a six, earning him 12 ranking points in the ODI batting standings, placing him just 11 points behind New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell, who holds the top spot.
Bumrah also made an impactful return to ODI cricket with a wicket and climbed to 24th in the bowling rankings, adding more strength to India’s bowling attack.
Washington Sundar also benefited from the latest rankings update, jumping 16 places to 55th among ODI all-rounders after his unbeaten 52 runs in the match.
With high hopes, Axar Patel will aim to maintain his form as India prepares for the second ODI at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff on July 16.
