Rochester Improves Garbage Pickup with New Technology
Rochester city officials are excited to announce the use of advanced technology to enhance the efficiency of garbage collection in neighborhoods. All collection trucks are now fitted with systems that provide real-time navigation and service notifications, allowing drivers to track issues as they arise during pickups.
Karen St. Aubin, the director of the Bureau of Operations, explained, “New drivers might not be familiar with their routes, but this technology guides them on everything they need to know. It can also assist with navigation and special services if required.”
To ensure that the garbage collection runs smoothly, city leaders are asking residents to follow these simple reminders:
- Put your trash and recycling bins out by 6:30 a.m. on your collection day. It’s best to place them out the night before.
- Keep at least 3 feet of space between your trash and recycling containers.
- Avoid placing bins near parked cars, trees, fences, utility poles, or any other obstacles.
- Make sure that the handles of the containers are facing your home so that the automated truck arm can easily pick them up.
- Use the green bin for trash and the blue bin for recycling.
Mayor Malik Evans emphasized the importance of these small actions by residents, stating, “Every little effort counts. Our new technology is designed to create a smarter and safer collection system, but it’s most effective when everyone participates. By placing bins correctly and on time, residents help improve the efficiency of the service and ensure safety for our workers.”
