Abundantia Entertainment Announces Upcoming Film ‘Angre’ on Maratha Navy Admiral
Abundantia Entertainment has shared exciting news about their new film titled Angre. This feature film will delve into the life of Sarkhel Kanhojiraje Angre, renowned as the Grand Admiral of the Maratha Navy. He played a crucial role in safeguarding India’s western seas against the British and Portuguese for over forty years. The film will be directed by Rajesh Mapuskar, a National Award-winning filmmaker, marking his second collaboration with Abundantia after Chiranjeevi Hanuman – The Eternal. This project is being produced alongside Mapuskar’s own company, Magij Pictures.
Sarkhel Angre commanded his naval fleet from Kolaba, working to protect the Konkan coast and uphold Maratha sovereignty in the Indian Ocean. He was noted for his undefeated record throughout his career and followed the legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj closely.
Vikram Malhotra, the Founder and CEO of Abundantia Entertainment, expressed his enthusiasm about the project, stating, “Today is a proud moment for us. The story of Sarkhel Kanhojiraje Angre is one that everyone should see, especially the younger generation unaware of this historical figure’s contributions. With Rajesh Mapuskar’s talent and understanding of Maratha history, we are excited to tell this important story together.”
Director Rajesh Mapuskar also shared his thoughts, emphasizing his connection to the region where Angre once ruled. He remarked, “Having grown up on the Konkan coast, it feels special to tell the story of Sarkhel Kanhojiraje Angre—one I’ve wanted to share for years. Working with Vikram and the team at Abundantia is a fantastic opportunity, as they believe in powerful storytelling.”
So far in 2026, Abundantia has released films like Daldal, Subedaar, and Maa Behen. Upcoming projects include Chiranjeevi Hanuman – The Eternal, along with a Netflix series named Family Business and another series for Prime Video titled Sundar Poonam.
With Angre, Abundantia aims to honor a vital part of India’s maritime history while inspiring audiences across generations.
