Canadian Police Determine No Connection Between Indian Government and Assassination

Canadian Authorities Clear Indian Government in Sikh Leader’s Assassination

Canadian officials have announced that there is no evidence linking the Indian government to the assassination of Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Nijjar was shot outside a gurdwara in British Columbia on June 18, 2023, an event that has drawn significant international concern.

During a recent press conference, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) emphasized that their ongoing investigation has not found any direct connections between Indian officials or agents and Nijjar’s death.

Nijjar was a well-known activist in the Sikh community, advocating for a separate Sikh state in India. His views have sometimes created tensions between the Indian government and certain Sikh groups abroad.

This announcement comes after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau mentioned credible allegations regarding the Indian government’s involvement in Nijjar’s assassination. Trudeau’s remarks have led to increased diplomatic friction between Canada and India.

In response, the Indian government has categorically denied these allegations, deeming them unfounded. India’s officials have called for a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding Nijjar’s killing, urging all parties to avoid making unverified statements.

As the situation develops, discussions between Canadian and Indian officials are expected to continue. The RCMP has stated that while they will follow all investigative leads, updates involving foreign governments will be handled cautiously.

With the investigation still ongoing, both the Canadian and Indian governments face mounting pressure from their citizens to address the unfolding events. More dialogues between officials are likely in the coming weeks, considering the delicate nature of this case.
