T-Series Films and Almighty Motion Picture are teaming up again after their successful project, Made in India: A Titan Story. Their new venture is an ambitious multi-season drama series called The TATAs.
This exciting show will adapt Girish Kuber’s award-winning book, The Tatas: How a Family Built a Business and a Nation. It promises to be a multi-generational saga, highlighting how the Tata family’s business values, innovations, and charitable efforts played a significant role in shaping modern India. Instead of just focusing on boardroom decisions, the series aims to create a deep character exploration of visionary leaders navigating India’s evolving society.
The TATAs will span four distinct eras of Tata history, showcasing how each generation contributed to the Indian landscape:
Generation I: The Founder, Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata
This segment will delve into Jamsetji’s ambitious vision to provide India with three key assets: Tata Steel, the first integrated steel plant in Asia; the luxurious Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, established in 1903; and a foundation for scientific research through the Indian Institute of Science (IISc).
Generation II: The Consolidators, Sir Dorabji Tata and Sir Ratan Tata
The second era focuses on the challenging establishment of Tata Steel amid skepticism and the development of Tata Hydro-Electric Power, alongside the formation of Tata Trusts, which pioneered philanthropy in India.
Generation III: The Modernizer, J.R.D. Tata
This chapter highlights J.R.D. Tata’s leadership that spanned over fifty years, covering his role in Indian aviation with Tata Airlines (later Air India), founding Tata Motors to enhance India’s transportation, and introducing Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) in 1968, marking the country’s entry into the tech era.
Generation IV: The Globalist, Ratan Naval Tata
The final part will portray how Ratan Tata took the Tata empire to a global level, emphasizing bold modernization efforts and strategic international acquisitions that transformed the consumer landscape with brands like Titan.
Screenwriter Karan Vyas, celebrated for capturing emotions and history in Made In India: A Titan Story, is on board to adapt Kuber’s book. Producer Bhushan Kumar shares, “While some families build businesses, the Tata family helped shape the very idea of modern India. The love for our previous project has motivated us to tell this extraordinary story of a family whose vision has influenced many generations.”
Karan Vyas added, “Exploring the Tata family archives revealed that their history is more than corporate; it’s a key part of modern India’s narrative. Partnering with Almighty Motion Picture allows us to present this story with the depth it deserves.”
Prabhleen Sandhu, Co-Founder of Almighty Motion Picture, expressed that their goal is to tell authentic Indian stories with rich backgrounds. She believes The TATAs will not only tell the story of a family but also highlight the values and ideas that shaped India.
The series, currently in development, aims to provide a character-driven account of one of the world’s most respected business families. As interest in biographical dramas grows globally, T-Series and Almighty Motion Picture intend to position The TATAs as a prominent Indian story with wide-reaching appeal.
