India and Indonesia Strengthen Strategic Partnership
Leaders from India and Indonesia are taking important steps to boost their ties across various important sectors. This agreement includes fields like artificial intelligence, space exploration, and critical minerals.
Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Jakarta on Tuesday to discuss these initiatives. According to India’s foreign ministry, this meeting further builds on the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership established between the two nations in 2018.
At a press conference following their talks, President Prabowo highlighted the growing cross-border security issues and emphasized their commitment to enhancing cooperation in emerging technologies and improving digital infrastructure.
Prime Minister Modi also shared exciting news, announcing that a significant agreement has been made to strengthen supply chains, particularly in critical minerals and the steel industry. Indonesia is a key player in providing essential minerals like nickel and cobalt, which are crucial for electric vehicle manufacturing.
The leaders also agreed to work closely on defense and maritime security, with their coast guard services collaborating to ensure safety in the Indian Ocean.
Modi is keen to foster stronger ties with Southeast Asia as part of his “Act East Policy.” He is also scheduled to visit Australia and New Zealand during his current three-nation tour.
