ISRO Completes Successful Parachute Tests for Gaganyaan Mission

Bengaluru, July 5, 2026 — The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has successfully carried out integrated parachute tests to ensure that the deceleration systems work well for the upcoming Gaganyaan mission. This mission includes a Crew Module designed to safely carry astronauts during lift-off, space travel, and splashdowns at sea.

On July 3, tests were conducted at ISRO’s facility in Sriharikota, where a total of 10 parachutes were deployed. These parachutes are crucial for slowing down the Crew Module as it falls to the ocean.

ISRO also announced its work on a new sub-orbital launch vehicle called SOLVE, which stands for Solid Motor based Sub-Orbital Launch Vehicle for Experiments. This special test rocket will enable numerous experiments under different conditions. During its tests, the Crew Module will detach from the rocket at altitudes ranging from 10 to 17 kilometers.

These advancements mark significant steps forward in India’s efforts to ensure the safe return of astronauts during missions.
