Gold and Silver Prices Soar After Weak U.S. Jobs Report

Gold and Silver Prices Climb After Weak U.S. Job Report

Spot gold and silver prices have surged recently, following disappointing employment figures from the U.S. The latest nonfarm payrolls report showed that only 57,000 jobs were added in June, far below the expected 115,000. As a result, spot gold is now trading at about $4,123.80 per ounce, a gain of 2.28%. Similarly, spot silver has risen to around $61.052, marking a 3.27% increase.

The recent job data caused the U.S. dollar to weaken and raised questions about the Federal Reserve’s potential interest rate hikes. While the national unemployment rate dipped slightly to 4.2%, earlier payroll figures were revised down by 74,000 jobs, leading to concerns about the economy’s health.

As a result of the employment report, many investors have pushed back their expectations for the next interest rate hike from the Federal Reserve to December, instead of October. The yield on the benchmark 10-year U.S. Treasury bond also fell to around 4.465%.

Traders are keeping an eye on the upcoming July 4 holiday and the inflation data set to be released on July 14. The holiday could lead to lower trading volumes, which may cause larger price swings in the U.S. dollar, Treasury yields, and precious metals.

In related market news, crude oil prices have seen some movement, with West Texas Intermediate crude trading around $67.19 per barrel, while Brent crude is at about $70.26. The decline in the U.S. dollar index usually boosts prices for gold and silver.

Looking ahead, analysts are watching key price levels for gold. Resistance is seen between $4,162.36 and $4,214.34, while support levels are around $3,959.00 and $3,942.10. For silver, the immediate resistance ranges between $60.05 and $63.32, with support around $58.83 and down to $58.00.

As the markets digest this information, investors are remaining cautious and are on the lookout for clearer indicators of labor market trends to guide their trading decisions.
