Vancouver’s BTQ Set to Acquires French Quantum Company QPerfect for $30 Million CAD
Vancouver-based BTQ Technologies is moving forward with its plans to acquire QPerfect, a quantum computing firm based in France. The acquisition recently received the green light from the French foreign direct investment authorities.
On July 1, BTQ announced that it has secured the necessary approval to acquire the remaining shares of the Strasbourg-based company after initially revealing its intentions last year.
The French Ministry for the Economy and Finance has outlined several conditions for the acquisition. These stipulations are designed to ensure the protection of QPerfect’s technological assets, which are vital to both France’s and Europe’s technological independence. Specifically, QPerfect must maintain its French office, appoint a corporate officer from France, continue its research and development activities, and safeguard its intellectual property.
BTQ is set to invest a total of $30 million in this deal. This will involve a cash payment of around $3.3 million and the issuance of over 2.1 million common shares of BTQ to cover the rest.
BTQ views the acquisition of QPerfect as a strategic move to enhance its capabilities in transitioning from traditional computing to quantum computing. The company highlighted that it will benefit from three significant components of QPerfect’s technology: MIMIQ, a quantum emulator that helps researchers design and validate algorithms; Digital Twin, which models systems; and the Quantum Logical Unit, aimed at developing scalable and reliable quantum systems.
By acquiring QPerfect, BTQ is positioning itself to strengthen its foothold in the growing quantum sector. Although this acquisition may not have an immediate financial impact on BTQ, which is valued at over $700 million USD, it will certainly enhance the company’s status as a leader in quantum computing, especially as global interest in this technology continues to rise.
