Rescue Efforts in Venezuela: Hope Amidst the Tragedy

On Tuesday, emergency workers in Venezuela achieved a remarkable feat by rescuing a 2-year-old boy who had been trapped under rubble for six days, following a series of devastating earthquakes that struck the country. The boy, identified as Klieber Moran, was pulled from a collapsed building in La Guaira, one of the hardest-hit areas.

Venezuela’s acting President, Delcy Rodríguez, confirmed the rescue via a Telegram post and mentioned that Klieber was receiving medical care at a hospital. This was the only confirmed rescue of a survivor on the sixth day of search operations.

National Assembly President Jorge Rodríguez expressed hope during a televised address, stating, “We must hold onto the hope of continuing to find people alive beneath the rubble.” He also noted the ongoing rescue efforts since the region was shaken by powerful earthquakes with magnitudes between 7.2 and 7.5 last Wednesday.

As of Tuesday, the death toll from the earthquakes had tragically risen to 1,943, with over 10,500 injuries reported. Officials have stated that they are still searching for more survivors.

In a show of international support, the U.S. State Department released footage of American search teams successfully rescuing a 9-month-old infant from the debris, along with her mother, both of whom suffered only minor injuries.

On the humanitarian front, a shipment from UNICEF arrived in Venezuela, bringing 47 metric tons of essential supplies. These include emergency health kits for urgent medical care, addressing needs like safe births and disease prevention.

As rescue operations continue, teams from U.S. states such as Virginia, California, and Florida have been dispatched to assist local efforts. This collective response underscores the resilience and hope shared by many during this challenging time.
