C P Radhakrishnan Highlights Importance of Leadership in New Book Launch

New Delhi, June 25, 2026 — Vice-President C P Radhakrishnan emphasized the need for leaders who are approachable and accountable during the launch of a new book titled VIP Culture in India: Power, Privilege and the Distance from Democracy. The book, authored by Nabam Rebia, a former Rajya Sabha MP from Arunachal Pradesh, and motivational speaker Sandeep Kumar, explores the implications of “VIP culture” in India.

Radhakrishnan pointed out that democracy thrives when public office is regarded as a duty and not just a privilege. He stressed that genuine leadership involves being connected to the everyday lives and wishes of ordinary citizens.

On the topic of VIP culture, he noted the public discussions surrounding this issue, which includes the observable perks enjoyed by certain individuals and the special treatment that comes with their positions. According to him, such attitudes can erode trust between the government and the populace, creating a divide.

He referenced Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has highlighted that holding public office should be viewed as an opportunity to serve the people rather than as a status symbol. Radhakrishnan quoted the Prime Minister’s sentiment following the removal of red beacons from VIP vehicles: “Every Indian is special, every Indian is a VIP.”

The conversation about leadership and privilege continues to resonate as the need for a more inclusive and responsible governance model grows.
