Goa Police Capture Insurgent Leader After Two Decades on the Run

On June 16, 2026, Goa Police arrested a prominent member of the banned Meitei insurgent group, People’s Liberation Army (PLA), in South Goa. The arrested individual, identified as Nongthongbam Ingo, also known as Krishna or Lal, had been evading law enforcement for nearly twenty years.

According to sources, the police acted on specific intelligence shared by the Manipur Police. Shortly after his arrival in Goa, they intercepted Ingo, who held the title of “self-styled Lt Colonel” within the group. He was wanted in connection with a case filed under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) at the Lilong police station in Thoubal district, Manipur.

A senior police official, who preferred to remain anonymous, revealed that two other insurgents had been arrested earlier in Manipur for similar UAPA violations. During their questioning, they disclosed their collaboration with Ingo, stating that he played a significant role in financing the operations of the PLA.

The arrest marks a crucial step in combating insurgent activity in the region and highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to maintain peace and security.
