Andre Agassi Offers Support to Maja Chwalinska After French Open Loss

Eight-time Grand Slam winner Andre Agassi reached out to Maja Chwalinska with an encouraging message after her recent defeat in the French Open final. Even though she lost to Mirra Andreeva, the Polish player has much to celebrate after her remarkable journey in the tournament.

During an interview at the TNT Sports studio, where Agassi was analyzing matches, he took a moment to comfort Chwalinska. When she expressed her confusion over the incredible support she received, Agassi stepped in with heartfelt words to help her appreciate her achievements.

“If you’re unsure why you deserve this, let me explain,” he said. “You successfully qualified and made it to the finals, which is one of the biggest challenges in our sport.”

He urged her not to dwell on the negative aspects, saying, “Don’t let the articles or the wins and losses distract you. Focus on making yourself better—you’re a gift to this sport.”

Chwalinska’s story is inspiring. Ranked No. 114 before the tournament, she made history by winning nine matches in just three weeks. By reaching the finals, she became the first-ever qualifier to do so in the women’s singles at the French Open and just the second female qualifier in the entire Open Era to reach a Grand Slam final, following Emma Raducanu’s feat.

Chwalinska’s Memorable French Open Journey

Maja Chwalinska’s path to the French Open final was nothing short of amazing. She had to win three qualifying matches just to enter the main draw. Once she did, she shocked everyone with impressive victories against top players, including Qinwen Zheng and Elise Mertens. She even triumphed in a tense three-set match against world No. 9 Maria Sakkari, then continued her winning streak against Diane Parry, Anna Kalinskaya, and Diana Shnaider to secure her spot in the championship match.

The final on Court Philippe-Chatrier was a tough battle against eighth-seeded Mirra Andreeva. Chwalinska started strong, even leading 3-2 in the first set, but Andreeva quickly found her rhythm and won the match 6-3, 6-2. Despite the disappointment, this experience will change Chwalinska’s career for the better. Her ranking is expected to jump 93 spots to a career-high No. 21, allowing her to enter major tournaments directly without having to qualify again.
