Balaji and Demoliner Shine at French Open, Reach Quarterfinals

In an exciting turn of events at the French Open, India’s N. Sriram Balaji and Brazil’s Marcelo Demoliner have caused a stir by defeating the sixth-seeded German duo of Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz to advance to the men’s doubles quarterfinals.

The Indo-Brazilian team showcased their skills with a steady performance, clinching a 7-5, 6-4 victory on the clay courts of Roland Garros, taking just one hour and 25 minutes to secure the win. This marks their third consecutive victory in the tournament, highlighting their growing confidence as partners.

Next up for Balaji and Demoliner is a challenging match against the highly-ranked second seeds, Harri Heliovaara from Finland and Henry Patten from Britain, as they aim for a spot in the semifinals.

Their journey in the tournament has been impressive, especially after a strong second-round win against Germany’s Jakob Schnaitter and Mark Wallner, where they triumphed 7-5, 6-2 in just 1 hour and 27 minutes.

On the other hand, it was a disappointing end for Yuki Bhambri and New Zealand’s Michael Venus, who exited in the second round after losing to Italy’s seasoned players Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori with a score of 3-6, 4-6. Despite a strong start in the tournament where they defeated Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo and Mariano Kestelboim in the first round, Bhambri still has a chance to continue his campaign in the mixed doubles alongside partner Alexandra Panova.

In the junior category, Arnav Paparkar has advanced to the boys’ singles round of 16 by defeating the 15th seed Kuan-Shou Chen from Chinese Taipei with a score of 6-2, 6-4. Paparkar will also compete in boys’ doubles, teaming up with Thailand’s Kunanan Pantaratorn against Britain’s Mark Ceban and Russia’s Kirill Filaretov.

Meanwhile, Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi is set to face the eighth-seeded Russian Mariia Makarova in the second round of the girls’ singles event, keeping Indian hopes alive at Roland Garros across various competitions.
